At BallyCara, care means more than meeting physical needs - it's about supporting each Resident's overall wellbeing and helping you to continue living life the way you choose. Our holistic approach considers health, social connection, emotional comfort, and personal goals. We take the time to learn what matters to you so your care reflects your preferences, culture, routines, and interests.

We work closely with Residents, families, and medical professionals to create personalised care plans that adapt as needs change - ensuring you feel safe, understood, and well-supported every day. Our team provides assistance with daily tasks, medication management, mobility support, specialised clinical and palliative care, and access to Allied Health services including Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.

We also encourage participation in activities that promote independence, confidence, and joy - whether that's light exercise, social outings, creative workshops, spiritual support, or quiet moments of relaxation. At BallyCara, you can always expect care that is compassionate, respectful, and centred on you.

BallyCara's Residential Aged Care Facilities are spread across two ground-level buildings. We offer a selection of room types designed to suit different needs and personal preferences. Most rooms feature a private ensuite and are furnished for comfort, with access to communal spaces such as gardens, dining areas, lounges, and activity rooms.

Residents can choose from standard or premium accommodation options, depending on what best suits their lifestyle. Safe and supportive environments are also available for those living with dementia or requiring higher levels of clinical care.

Our goal is to ensure you have a safe, comfortable place to call home - with the services and spaces that help you live well every day.

BallyCara provides residential respite care as a short-term, pre-planned service for individuals needing temporary support in a residential setting. This service is designed to give a break to both the person being cared for and their primary carer. Those staying at BallyCara's Residential Aged Care Facilities can expect to receive the same high-quality, person-centered care as permanent residents, including access to meals, activities, and medical assistance.

Respite services are typically arranged in advance and require an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) assessment, with the Australian Government subsidising a portion of the costs. This option allows individuals to experience the residential care environment/community firsthand while giving their carers the time they need to rest and recharge.

Approved residents are entitled to 63 days of subsidised respite care each financial year.

What could I be charged?

Residents moving into Residential Care can be asked to make the following types of payments.

  • Basic Daily Care Fee
All Residents (except Australian ex-prisoners of war) are required to pay a basic daily care fee which is currently $65.55* per day.
This fee may change from time to time in line with any pension increases. For more information please go to www.myagedcare.gov.au. There is also a fee estimator on this website which may help you estimate what costs you may be asked to pay.
  • Hotelling Contribution
A hotelling contribution (daily living costs) and/or a non-clinical care contribution (personal care costs such as bathing and mobility assistance) which is dependent on your income and assets.
  • An Accommodation Payment
An accommodation payment which will be paid depending on your income and assets or which may be met in full or in part by the Australian Government.
  • Higher Everyday Living Fee
From 1 July 2025, Residents can choose to pay a Higher Everyday Living Fee for extra services like enhanced dining, activities, or entertainment. This replaces previous additional/extra service fees.
You'll only pay for services you want, and choosing not to participate won't affect your care.

We understand that financial arrangements can be complex, so our friendly team is here to help explain your options and ensure you feel confident and informed before making any decisions.
You can also contact the Australian Government if you have queries about the residential aged care fees - agedcarefees@health.gov.au

A Single Assessment System now determines eligibility creating a simpler and more consistent approach to accessing aged care services.

The key steps are listed below:

What is Residential Aged Care?

Residential Aged Care Facilities are what was previously known as 'nursing homes'. They are designed for older people who can no longer live in their own home.

They include accommodation with 24/7 personal care, and access to nursing and general health services. Subsidies from the Australian Government may be availble for eligible people to reside in a residential aged care home.

About our End of Life Care

We believe everyone should experience a compassionate and personalised end to their life, in the company of people who matter, in a place they feel at home, with the support they need.

We are committed to providing compassionate end of life care, enabling individuals to make their own choices, which includes considering Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD). This will not detract from our care for the individual person. Each person and their wellbeing matters to us. We recognise and appreciate the importance of relationships between consumers, their families, and our staff.

Voluntary Assisted Dying in Queensland

Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) comes into effect in Queensland from 1 January 2023, and has been in Victoria since 2019. It is a legal process giving people the choice to undertake voluntary assisted dying. It provides people who are terminally ill and suffering from an advanced and progressive life-limiting condition the right to choose, as they near the end of their life, about how, when, and where they die. There are very clear criteria for who will be eligible to access voluntary assisted dying.

BallyCara will fulfill both our legal obligations and continue to enable a consumer to exercise dignity of choice. BallyCara will not provide or participate in VAD, however, a resident will not be asked to leave Residential Care, neither will services be stopped.
